Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the number one streamed track in just 6 months. This mixture of reggaeton, and pop music did not just draw people back to this music genre but also Latin music as a whole. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs in 2016, compared to two songs in the year 2015. At the peak of popularity for Despacito the track was among 19 that mostly in Spanish made it to the Top 100. by 2020, there will be 41 songs in this category. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix of Despacito (2017) the most well-known musicians started collaborating on reggaeton tracks, like Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna and Maluma with Maluma on Medellin (2019). At the time of 2020, some reggaeton stars were complaining about their genre's shift towards the mainstream. But a fresh generation, including Rauw Alejandro was determined to maintain the pace of evolution in reggaeton. It often utilized elements of electronic dance music in addition to other styles.
